Design 100 - Lamp design with laser cutter

Experiment - Lighting Designer
Task:
To design a Lamp using 3D printing or Laser cutting.
The light source has to be 17 cm off table.
I had chosen to do laser cutting as I think laser cutting would be a nice way to use to make a lamp. So the first steps I went on Pinterest to look for Ideas. I picked some designs that looks interesting to me.
Then I drew my Ideas on paper. Out of the ideas I had chosen the one on the second photo and to develop from it. As it is a very  simple sketch I can develop more from it. On photo 3 i drew different ideas that iterates from the one on photo 2.
After the deciding the first idea i made a model
When I was playing around with the model I found out that I could place it on the table by different directions. This is pretty interesting.
Got some feedback that i should make it slot in to each other and I should add patterns on it, as the laser cutter can cut very detailed things. Also feedback said that the light source would be too small to be located at the top. So I came up with a new idea.
Made the new paper model.
They were joined together by slotting into each other.
With all the feed back I came up with a new idea that included all the things that were mentioned in the feedbacks.
And then I went on illustrator drew the layout image of this idea.
Then I did the first print with the laser cutter. It didn't cut through so I only cut out the main parts. Then I joined them together. looks ok
I found some problems on it. The top piece was a bit too small, so I should enlarge it for my final.
Made my final print and taped it together before gluing it. Also did my soldering induction. But the wire was too long so I unsoldered it and made it shorter. and added a little triangle to cover the wires and the back of the switch.
Final changes
Got some suggestions made a little top to add on. Looks more detailed with this little top
After I finished joining the whole lamp I found that the leg of the light look very weak so I made a base using the same patterns that are used on the top. and joined them together.
Final
I really Like my final out come of the lamp. When I turn it on in my dark room the patterns of the light looks very nice and interesting.
Reflection: If I could make it again I think I would like to make it round on the edge of the leg so I can try a new way that i could laser cut. Also could think about making the legs of the lamp in a more stable looking way. I feel very proud of my self after seeing the final outcome. This is my first time making something with the laser cutter, and I learned how to solder.
